PRESSURIZED CASTING TECHNOLOGY

 Liquid metal is based on the principle of filling a die made of metal under very high pressure. By means of the applied pressure, it is ensured that the molten metal is filled very quickly in the excess amount. The pressure is continued to be applied until the solidification is completed and then the mold is opened and the process is completed by removing the piece from the mold with the help of pushing rods. This method makes it possible to cast very complicated shaped parts. Generally, the melting temperature of material to be cast is below 1000 ºC.  Because the processes are carried out entirely by machines, high production rates are accessible (100 ... 800 parts / hour). The pressure used ranges from 10 to 80 atmospheres. Particles obtained after the treatment are generally not required to be machined. In addition, the surfaces of the parts are finely grained and resistant to rapid cooling. Since the molds are expensive, this method is usually suitable for production on over 5000 parts. Cast iron, carbon steel, alloy steel and sometimes non-ferrous materials can be used as mold material. If the melting temperature of the casting metal is high, alloy steel molds are used; if low, carbon steel molds are used. Lead, tin, zinc, aluminum and magnesium alloys are used in pressure casting. The molds are usually two-piece and have pusher bars on them to remove pieces. It is usually cooled with water to keep the temperature of the molds constant. Both mold life increases and solidification Rapid cooling is ensured.

Superiority of method;

  • Suitable for casting complex shaped small parts.

  • Thin wall parts are filled with mold.

  • Production speed is high.

  • Since surface quality and dimensional accuracy are very high, additional finishing operations are usually not necessary.

  • The mechanical properties of the fine-grained interior, which is the result of rapid cooling, are good.

Limits of Method;

  • Mold design is strength.

  • A high pre-investment is required for the casting machine.

  • It is economical only for mass production and for many parts due to mold cost.
